'I got to thinking one day about the different and diverse 'patterns' that occur in our lives...sometimes we make mistakes that keep happening over and over and sometimes those 'patterns' are simply made up of shapes, colours, memories, songs and are what makes us who we are today...
these thoughts soon evolved into other thoughts and happy memories as I cast my mind back to the times I spent sewing with my mother, who used to be a dressmaker, just like her mother before her. I remember sitting with her by the fire on a cold winters day...trying to thread cotton into the eye of a small needle and laughing uncontrollably when it would not go in!
Using dress-making patterns as the basis to celebrate the past, I dragged acrylic paint across the canvas aided by liquid gel mediums. The colours merged into one another highlighting the 'patterns' on the canvas reiterating to me the simple things women used to do together, of the values of teaching trades from one generation to the next.
My new series was born...'PATTERNS'...
